Kibbutz Zikim

Kibbutz Zikim, located south of Ashkelon, was founded in 1949 by a group of Romanian immigrants belonging to the Hashomer Hatzair World Movement. They wanted to fortify the Israeli hold on the borders with Egypt and the Gaza Strip. Zikim is a successful example of blending cultures, of Jews from many countries who came together to create a socially and culturally rich community.
